Our history goes way back
We have a rich but humble heritage, dating back to 1934 when our original company was founded in Sweden – mainly to provide protection against fires and intruders. Since those early days, we have become one of the world's largest security providers.
The founder of Securitas, Erik Philip Sørensen, established our company in Sweden in 1934 when he bought Hälsingborgs Nattvakt, a small guarding company with three guards. The company quickly grew organically and through acquisitions of smaller, regional companies. In 1972 the Group adopted the name Securitas and in 1991 Securitas was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
International expansion started in the late 1980s, and increased rapidly from the mid- 1990s, with Europe as the primary market. In 1999, the company entered North America, followed by Latin America in 2000, and in 2007 into Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Securitas’ growth has been both natural and by acquisition where Securitas has identified like-minded Companies to join with the Securitas team. One such Company that Securitas acquired that is familiar to most is the first security company ever established anywhere around the world: Pinkerton in the U.S.
